Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground meat ((beef, chicken, or turkey))
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 3 ½ cups low-sodium beef broth (+ ½ cup more as needed)
  • 2 cups dried macaroni noodles
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Add 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil to a large deep skillet or saucepan and heat for 30-60 seconds over medium-high heat. Once the oil has heated, add 1 pound lean ground meat to the pan and brown, being sure to break the meat into small pieces as it browns. Once the beef has fully browned, remove the pan from the heat to drain off excess grease, If needed.

  2. Add 6 ounces tomato paste, 1 teaspoon paprika, 2 teaspoons onion powder, 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper to the pan. Cook over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring to coat the meat with the tomato paste and seasonings.

  3. Add 8 ounces tomato sauce and3 ½ cups low-sodium beef broth to the pan, turn the heat to medium-high, and bring the mixture to a boil. Once the liquid comes to a gentle boil, stir in 2 cups dried macaroni noodles, and turn the heat to medium-low.

  4. Simmer, uncovered, for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until noodles cooked through and sauce is absorbed. If needed, add in up to ½ cup of additional broth if you see the liquid is evaporating before the noodles are tender.

  5. Once the noodles are tender, turn off the heat and stir in 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce. Taste to adjust seasonings and then serve immediately.
