Ingredients

  • olive oil (for brushing grill/grill pan)
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (trimmed of any fat)
  • ½ cup prepared BBQ sauce (plus additional for serving.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Lightly brush the grill with oil.

  2. In a small mixing bowl combine 2 teaspoons brown sugar, 2 teaspoons smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper.

  3. Trim any fat or grizzle off 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, place them between two pieces of plastic wrap (or parchment paper) and gently pound until each chicken breast is ½-inch thick. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over each side of the chicken using your hands to really rub the blend into the chicken.

  4. Place the seasoned chicken on the preheated grill. Cover and cook for 5 minutes without disturbing. Flip the chicken and cook for an additional 4 minutes.

  5. Brush the top of the chicken with BBQ sauce, then flip and cook for 2 minutes. Brush the other side with BBQ sauce, flip again, and cook for 2 more minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 163-165°F (73-74°C).

  6. Transfer the chicken to a clean plate and tent with foil. Allow the chicken to rest for 5 minutes for the juices to redistribute. Serve with additional BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
